ALONG THE ROUTE…
SMOKE SHOW!!!
At one point in Indiana on the way to Indianapolis from Springfield, Illinois there were approximately 12 to 15 spectators on a grassy corner under some shade
trees all with cameras trained on the stop sign we were all obeying one at a time.
The road ahead was void of houses and/or traffic, and the roads to the Left, and
The Right were the same…So….Almost everyone heeded the vocal shouts, and hand gesturing urging of the group to “ LIGHT EM UP, or SMOKE EM.
There were five cars in front of me including Alex in the Maverick Grabber and
all of them nailed it when they crossed the intersection to the delight of the group on
the corner …There was quite a bit of noise and some smoke from all the cars ahead of me and now it was the Comet’s turn.. The Comet has a Tremec 5 speed stick shift with a centerforce clutch and 3.73s in a Currie 9”inch rear end with Southside Lift
Bars and 10” inch tires. Under the hood is a built 5.0 with Vic Jr Manifold, Demon
Carb, Trick Flow heads, MSD , Hookers, etc..You get the picture..
I knew what these folks wanted, so….I tacked it up to 5000 rpm and released the
clutch.. The back of the car tried to pass the front of the car , I went into the oncoming lane almost sideways (no traffic there of course) and white smoke filling the air behind me.
On the way by the group after straightening out I gave them a thumbs up..and I noticed a lot of their thumbs up, some leaped out of their chairs cameras flashing, I heard a few Yahoos, some rebel yells, and most all of them were smiling..( me too!)
Unfortunately I didn’t have time to take pictures…I was real busy. Ha. - Chip
